Ruskin Mill College was founded over 16 years ago. It provides an innovative and experiential education for around 80 young people with special learning needs aged between 16 - 24 years. The College is based in 100 acres of beautiful wooded valley, fishery and farmland where each student takes part in an individual programme designed to enable them to make the most of their own potential.

This was our first project at the College near Nailsworth. It was a joint task with their own staff and volunteers. After initial confusion over the meeting point we were assigned our various tasks under the guidance of the college staff. Work included bulb planting, weeding and landscaping alongside the fishery. The jobs we did were part of an ongoing programme of work to restore the whole area and made a change from our normal tasks. Fortunately we were blessed with fine weather.

Delicious home made biscuits were provided with tea and coffee at morning and afternoon breaks. A tasty and filling lunch was provided which was very much appreciated. Unfortunately it made starting back in the afternoon even more difficult than usual

This was a very enjoyable and rewarding day at a new site for us with very friendly staff and volunteers. Ruskin Mill College is an interesting organisation with a range of activities particularly craft workshops and talks that can be viewed at:

They run a number of community days throughout the year, which are advertised on their website. Hopefully we will be joining them on future occasions.
